Le Figaro: Armenia and Azerbaijan can prove that international mediation is obsolete in establishing peace

French publication Le Figaro has published an article regarding the ongoing negotiations in the direction of the normalization of relations between Armenia and Azerbaijan, APA reports.

In the article, professor of international relations Sébastien Boussois has analyzed the possible outcomes of the normalization process.

It was noted that the return of the bilateral approach for the establishment of peace in the region following decades-long war gives hope at a time when the world is on fire.

The author writes that Armenia and Azerbaijan can prove by the end of the year that not only the UN, but also international mediation is obsolete in establishing peace.

Article notes that the mediation attempts of the U.S., Russia and the European Union were in vain.

Article highlighted that the Foreign Ministers of Azerbaijan and Armenia will meet in Almaty, Kazakhstan on May 10, and stressed that the parties discussed all the elements that could lead to a final and definitive agreement on the resolution of the conflict between the two countries that has been going on for more than thirty years: "A new bilateral meeting will take place in Almaty, Kazakhstan on May 10. The host country will play no role in the negotiations, however, it has a strong symbolic value. That is, when the USSR dissolved, the Almaty Declaration, which confirmed its end, was signed. The history can be rewritten there."

According to the Professor, Armenia returning the 4 villages of Azerbaijan last month is proof that it wishes to move forward in the direction of normalization: "In reality, Armenia no longer has a choice: the country must be reintegrated into the regional dynamics as soon as possible."

Article mentiones that as a result of resolving the issue related to Zangazur Corridor, in addition to restoring Azerbaijan's direct connection to the Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic, it should be beneficial for Armenia to establish trade relations with its neighbors.

"Both parties hope that the peace agreement will be signed before COP29, which will be held in Baku at the end of November," the article states.
