Georgian parliament speaker accuses foreign ambassadors of interference in country's internal affairs

The Speaker of the Georgian Parliament, Shalva Papuashvili, has accused foreign ambassadors of interfering in Georgia's internal affairs, he has shared a post on his Facebook account in this regard, APA’s Tbilisi correspondent reports.

Shalva Papuashvili emphasized that the Georgian government ensures the strength of democracy precisely against such external interventions: "Instead of building a bridge with the host country and society, foreign ambassadors have taken on the role of instructors for those governing the country. This has reached a point where the duty of ambassadors is not to establish trust with the host country but to impose their own authority on the local leadership. We remember this well from the Soviet era— the second highest-ranking official in the country, the second secretary of the Central Committee, was always sent from Moscow."

Papuashvili stated that foreign aid, unlike diplomacy, is far from protecting compromise and common interests, instead serving to safeguard foreign interests in the internal politics of countries. He added that such foreign interests embedded in the country's political parties and civil society sector eventually turn into tools for influencing internal affairs.
