Iranian Defense Minister Aziz Nasirzadeh sees holding talks with the US administration led by new President Donald Trump as "impossible," citing Washington’s history of not honoring agreements, APA reports citing Tass.
"The Americans are talking nonsense. We do not hold negotiations under sanctions and threats. And it is impossible to hold any talks with the current US government. We do not accept them," the head of the military agency said in a commentary for the ISNA news agency during a rally marking the 46th anniversary of Iran’s Islamic Revolution.
Earlier, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian asserted that Trump, despite his stated wish to conduct negotiations with Tehran, continues to plot against Iran and signs new decrees that put increased pressure on the Islamic republic.
On February 4, Trump signed an executive order to reinstate maximum US pressure on Iran. The measure specifically aims to increase efforts to reduce Iran’s oil exports. At the same time, the US president did not rule out the possibility of a meeting with his Iranian counterpart.
