Iran will not have nuclear weapons while US President Donald Trump is in office, US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said, APA reports citing TASS.
"I don’t think anyone should be confused here. Under Donal Trump there is not going to be a nuclear Iran," he said in an interview with journalist Catherine Herridge published on her X page.
On February 4, Trump signed an executive order to restore maximum US pressure on Iran. The document provides for the intensification of Washington's efforts to reduce Iran's oil exports. At the same time, the US leader allowed the possibility of a meeting with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian and said he wanted to make a "great deal" with Tehran.
On February 7, Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said that it was impossible to negotiate with the United States because it had already deceived Tehran once. Washington concluded a nuclear deal, failed to fulfill its terms, did not lift anti-Iran sanctions and unilaterally terminated the agreement, Khamenei recalled.
On February 10, Trump pointed out that stopping Tehran's development of nuclear weapons could be stopped either "with bombs" or by signing the agreement. He added that he would like to make a deal with the country.
