WHO Director-General responds to accusations of mishandling COVID

The Director-General of the World Health Organization (WHO), Dr. Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, has responded to accusations regarding the mishandling of COVID, during the panel titled "Reconsidering Multilateralism for a Multipolar World" held within the framework of the 12th Global Baku Forum on the topic "Rethinking the World Order: Turning Challenges into Opportunities", APA reports.

He said that in 2017, they decided to diversify donors: "We do not want to depend on a single donor. The United States should remain in the organization and support the process so that we can increase the diversity of donors. We have done our best to manage COVID. Based on the lessons learned, we have identified the necessary steps. We do not participate in processes that do not align with our values. During President Trump’s first term, we said no to Russia and China. We had a clear stance against China's ideas. If the United States withdraws, we will lose 20% of our budget. We are cooperating with the US and other countries to explain that the United States should remain in the organization."
