Rebuilt Khankandi-Shusha-Lachin highway to be 9.2 km shorter than existing road

Media representatives got familiarized with the ongoing construction works on the Khankandi-Shusha-Lachin highway, APA’s Garabagh bureau reports.

The media representatives were informed about the ongoing works.

Gazanfar Safarov, an associate of State Agency of Azerbaijan Automobile Roads (AAY) said that the newly built road is 9.2 km shorter than the existing road: “The width of the soil bed is 15 meters, and the width of each lane is 3.75 meters in the second technical grade highway with a total length of 34 kilometers. The highway has been shortened by 9.2 kilometers as a result of the elimination of the newly constructed road tunnels and hard turns. In total, 2 bridges, 4 tunnels and culverts will be built on the road.

Excavation works have been done at the entrance and exit portals of the first and third tunnels, which are 440 and 1100 meters long. Works on the other two tunnels - the second and fourth tunnels with lengths of 540 and 300 meters - will start soon.”

It was noted that the construction works on the Khankandi-Shusha-Lachin highway are being rapidly continued in order to complete the works by the end of next year.
