A trial was held in the Sabail District Court of Baku regarding the preventive measure chosen against Baghirov Azer Akif, a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan, APA reports.
Azer Baghirov, who was accused of treason in the form of espionage by assisting representatives of a foreign special service, was arrested in the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan as a result of measures taken by the State Security Service of the Republic of Azerbaijan and brought to the Republic of Azerbaijan.
It is known from the case materials that the foreign special service involved Azer Baghirov as an Azerbaijani citizen to avoid revealing his participation in the sabotage events it prepared in third countries. Azer Baghirov, on the other hand, deliberately harmed the interests of our state abroad and engaged in espionage activities by using his status as a citizen of the Republic of Azerbaijan for the benefit of the foreign special service and to the detriment of the state security of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
The court chose to place Baghirov Azer Akif in pretrial detention under Article 274 (treason) of the Criminal Code.
