Azerbaijan’s Aghdam Mugham Center nears completion of amphitheater for cultural events

An amphitheater spanning 1,250 square meters has been constructed at Azerbaijan’s Aghdam Mugham Center, Leyla Sarabi, spokesperson for the Restoration, Construction, and Management Service for Aghdam, Fuzuli, and Khojavend districts told, AzVision.az reports.

While on a media tour in Aghdam, Sarabi pointed out that the center's first floor, spread across 1.4 hectares, boasts a café, a cinema hall, a library, and two dance halls.

“The concert hall, which accommodates 507 seats, is fully equipped for various cultural events, including mugham evenings. The second floor houses administrative offices. The center will have 14 classrooms, an exhibition hall, a conference room, a teachers’ lounge, and other facilities. Additionally, an open-air amphitheater of 1,250 square meters has been built at the Aghdam Mugham Center. Construction work is nearing completion, and finishing touches are being applied in the concert hall, the building’s exterior, and the installation of necessary equipment and furniture,” she said.

To note, in recent years, the Azerbaijani government has actively promoted and developed mugham, with significant contributions from the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, led by First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva. As a result of the Foundation’s initiatives, the Azerbaijani mugham has been inscribed on UNESCO’s “Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity” list.

The foundation stone for the Aghdam Mugham Center was laid by President Ilham Aliyev and First Lady Mehriban Aliyeva on May 2, 2023.
