Europe’s underground gas storage reserves drop below 40 billion cubic meters

The capacity rate of underground gas storage facilities in the European Union countries has dropped below 40% for the first time in more than 3 years, APA-Economics reports, citing Gas Infrastructure Europe (GIE).

According to the information, the capacity level of storage facilities in EU countries is 39.93%, which is 11,24% points lower than the average for this date over the past five years.

It is noted that since the start of the heating season, EU countries have extracted over 65 bln cubic meters (bcm) from UGS facilities. The heating season in Europe began on October 29, 2024.

It is reported that the total volume of gas in storage facilities is currently close to 44.3 billion cubic meters.

Note that since December 31, 2020, Azerbaijan started to transport its gas to Europe through the Trans-Adriatic Pipeline (TAP).
