EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said Friday that there was no reason to drop sanctions against Russia, as Hungary holds up extending the measures pending Donald Trump's return to the White House, APA reports citing AFP.
"We definitely need the sanctions in place. This is our leverage, and it would be very strange to give it away," Kallas told journalists.
"Things haven't changed. (Russian President Vladimir) Putin hasn't changed his goals and nothing has changed on the ground. So there is no basis to for lifting the sanctions."
