Turkish FM: Russia acted rationally in overthrowing process of Assad

"Russia acted rationally in the process of overthrowing Assad," Hakan Fidan, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye said at a briefing for local and international media representatives, APA reports.

The minister said that Russia did not repeat the mistake of 2016: "They could have intervened, they had the military power to do so, but they did not. They came to the conclusion that supporting Bashar Assad was of no benefit to either Russia or the region. Russia acted as a rational actor in the processes. The issue of the future of Russian military personnel in Syria remains open. We all will see how the next agreement will be together."

Hakan Fidan also touched upon the radical changes in American foreign policy with the arrival of Trump: "We support Donald Trump's desire for a ceasefire in Gaza. We see that the purpose of his threatening sentences is to accelerate the ceasefire process."
